Delinquent Property Tax Information

IF YOU HAVE DELINQUENT TAXES PLEASE NOTE that after April 15 in the year after the tax bill is due, a CERTIFICATE OF DELINQUENCY will be created constituting a LIEN OF RECORD against the listed property. Payment of this bill is a personal obligation of the taxpayer. The amount due will increase each month with the accrual of additional interest. Thus, payment is very important.

PROPERTY TAX BILL CERTIFICATES OF DELINQUENCY WILL BE CREATED ON OR ABOUT APRIL 16th EACH YEAR.

The sale of delinquent tax bills by the Monroe County Clerk’s Office WILL BEGIN IN SEPTEMBER OF MOST YEARS. Any Certificate of Delinquency which is not paid in full by that date may be sold to a third party purchaser.

Certificates of Delinquency from previous years may have already been purchased. Certificates of Delinquency that are eligible to be purchased may be subject to being purchased by a third-party at any time. If purchased the third party purchaser may impose substantial additional administrative costs and fees.

Collection action by the Monroe County Attorney’s Office or a third-party may include foreclosure of the property.

TO SEE IF YOUR CERTIFICATE OF DELINQUENCY HAS BEEN PURCHASED PLEASE VISIT THE BARREN COUNTY CLERK’S DELINQUENT TAX DEPARTMENT OR CALL 270-651-3783. IF THE CERTIFICATE OF DELINQUENCY HAS BEEN PURCHASED, THE BARREN COUNTY CLERK’S DELINQUENT TAX DEPARTMENT CAN ALSO GIVE YOU INFORMATION REGARDING THE THIRD PARTY PURCHASER.

For any certificate of delinquency that has not been purchased, payment of the full amount due plus any accrued interest may be made to the County Clerk’s Office.

Payment should be made to:

Monroe County Courthouse
200 N Main St., Suite D
Tompkinsville, KY 42167

Acceptable forms of payment by mail include check or money order. Payment may also be made in person at the County Clerk’s office in which acceptable forms of payment are check, cash, and credit card (additional fees may apply). Credit card payments can also be made over the phone (additional fees may apply).
